Cash Assistance to Help the Lebanese Families and Preserve Their Dignity
Since two years, Lebanese citizens are suffering from worsening economic crises, and the collapse of the banking system and the Lebanese currency. Aiming at facing this urgent situation, the Middle East Council of Churches continues to support the most affected groups by this economic and living disaster in order to preserve their dignity and protect their right to a decent life. Hence, the Service and Relief Department – Diakonia, Beirut office, implemented a cash assistance program, in partnership and cooperation with the international humanitarian organization Norwegian Church Aid – NCA.
The dramatic crises have affected the Lebanese people on many social, health and life levels. In fact, and with the absence of solutions, the prices of food and basic commodities have increased, and the citizens are unable to secure their essential needs, especially since their deposits have been withheld due to the collapse of the banking system.
Therefore, it was necessary to support the Lebanese citizens in facing their plight. The Diakonia Department distributed cash vouchers of 4,250,000 each to 1145 families. As well as, 1,292 families received cash vouchers of 4,560,000 each. This cash assistance may not cover all their financial burdens, but it certainly helps them secure their basic needs and face the challenges that are increasing daily.
In the absence of any solution for one of the most severe global economic crises, the Middle East Council of Churches continues supporting the marginalized and neediest groups in Lebanon, as in all the Middle Eastern countries, through various programs and activities that relieve their stress.
