On the occasion of the Evangelical Reformation Day
The MECC General Secretariat in Beirut Prays with the Evangelical Church
“Witnessing for the God of Life Amidst a Suffering World”
On the occasion of the Evangelical Reformation Day, which is entitled this year “Witnessing for the God of Life Amidst a Suffering World”, the team of the Middle East Council of Churches’ General Secretariat, headed by the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, participated in a special Prayer Service, presided over by Reverend Dr. Rima Nasrallah, from the Evangelical Church in Beirut, and Coordinator of the MECC Ecojustice Unit. The Prayer was held on Tuesday 1 November 2022, at the offices of the MECC General Secretariat in Beirut.
During the Service, Prayers prepared by the World Communion of the Reformed Churches (WCRC) in Rome, were read. It included a Confession Prayer, a Forgiveness Prayer, Peace sharing, a reading from the Epistle of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Romans (5/18-26), readings from various Reformed Confessions, a general Prayer, in addition to a closing Prayer and blessings.
As well as, Reverend Nasrallah presented a meditation on the Reformation Day, which is celebrated on 31 October of each year, as well as a historical overview about this day and its symbolism. She mentioned that the Evangelical Church remembers on this day the event witnessed by the German city of Wittenberg in 1517, when the Augustinian Monk Martin Luther hung 95 theses on the door of the city Church. Noting that these theses stand for 95 questions and invitations to discussion about some Ecclesiastical practices and traditions.
Rev. Rima also explained the Reformation’s principles, stressing that the Evangelical Church is in continuous reform in light of the Bible reading, as well as reconsidering faith, traditions and worship...
Let us Pray together with a contrite heart and humble spirit: “O God, help us witness Your Kingdom with faith, open our eyes wide to the new life You grant to Your believers. Fill us with Your spirit, so we may walk in a manner worthy of Your plan, proclaiming Your love, and witnessing to Your forgiveness, so we will have a role in changing this world, in the name of Christ. Amen.”
