MECC Distributed Summer Seeds to Farmers in Dara’a

In order to continue supporting poor and affected families through enabling them to participate in the economic life; the Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, at the Middle East Council of Churches, Syria’s office, provided summer seeds to farmers in Samej and Um Al Mayathen villages in Daraa Governorate.

Farmers received summer seed kits which included cucumber, cucurbit, zucchini, cauliflower, bean, okra, corn, mulukhia, radish, onion, fertilizer and tools such as rake, shovel, hoe, watering can, JR for drip irrigation, and water tanks.

147 families in Samej and 33 in Um Al Mayathen benefited from the seeds distributions including women headed households and those having persons with disabilities. An agricultural engineer visited all the beneficiaries twice a month to check on the plants and provide all necessary support and advice to the farmers to ensure having a good production.

All beneficiaries were trained on the correct methods of farming, plant diseases and treatment methods in addition to the best practices to increase production.

It is important to note that the distribution process was door to door for every beneficiary taking into account all the necessary COVID-19 precautions.
