Vocational Trainings in Damascus Qualifying Young Trainees to Enter the Labor Market

Within the activities of the Vocational Program, MECC implemented vocational training in Damascus for 32 persons between the ages of 18 and 33.

The three-month training included the basics of men’s hairdressing and cosmetology, which were followed by a five-day business start-up courses that addressed the methods of starting – up a small business. At the end of the courses, every participant received a tool kit including all the necessary items to start working.

18 women attended the cosmetology training to learn the principles of make-up, manicuring, pedicuring and facial treatments. In addition, 14 men attended men’s hairdressing training to learn the basics of the profession including cutting, dyeing and styling hair in addition to beard and mustache trimming and facials.

All participants stressed that the vocational trainings were very beneficial. Some of them have already started working in barbershops while others started up their own businesses benefiting from the received tool kits.
