The MECC Ecojustice Adhoc Committee is conducting a series of visits to the heads of Churches aiming at informing them of the “Season of Creation” project 2021. A delegation representing the committee visited today on 22th of July, the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and all the East His Beatitude Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai at the Patriarchal summer residence in Diman – Lebanon, and the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East and the President of the Council for the Antioch Orthodox Family His Beatitude John X in Balamand - Lebanon, in the presence of the Patriarchal Vicar, His Grace Bishop Ephraim Maalouli.
The delegation included two members of the Ecojustice Adhoc Committee and are the head of the Association of Theological Institutes and Faculties in the Middle East Father Tanios Khalil and Dr. Dany El-Obeid. They presented to HB Patriarch Al-Rai and HB Patriarch John X a brief overview of the "Season of Creation", which was launched by the Middle East Council of Churches for the first time in the region. Noting that MECC is translating the Season’s booklet into Arabic. They also discussed several other activities that MECC is preparing.
Both Patriarchs received from Khalil and El-Obeid a letter in which the MECC is inviting Christians and Eastern people in the region to participate in the Prayers and celebrations of the Season. The letter also included a detailed presentation and explanation of this project’s history and activities, especially in the Middle East.
It is worth noticing that Christians around the world celebrate the “Season of Creation” during a period dedicated to Prayer and work for the protection of the environment, between September 1st and October 4 of each year.
