Middle East Council of Churches General Secretariat Delegation Visiting HE Reverend Dr. Habib Badr
A delegation from the General Secretariat of the Middle East Council of Churches headed by Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs visited the President of the National Evangelical Union in Lebanon and President of the Council for the Evangelical Family HE Reverend Dr. Habib Badr at the National Evangelical Church’s headquarters in Beirut. Representatives of the various Evangelical Churches in Lebanon joined them and were informed of the latest developments of the MECC work and its ongoing projects.
This meeting is one of the many visits the General Secretary is conducting to the Heads of member Churches in Lebanon.
HE Reverend Dr. Habib Badr welcomed the General Secretariat team and praised the efforts that the Council is making in order to enhance its Ecumenical message and to preserve the Human dignity, especially amidst the various crises in the Middle East. He also stressed on the strong relation between the Evangelical Church and the Middle East Council of Churches.
In addition, Reverend Dr. Badr presented to the attendees the path of the Evangelical Family and its mission since the Council’s inauguration in 1974. Noting that the Evangelical Family was among the first Churches to call for the Ecumenical action through the establishment of the Ecumenical movement internationally.
Reverend Dr. Badr highlighted also the role of the Evangelical Church in helping the Council overcome the challenges that it has faced over the years, especially the stage of the struggle. This was in order to develop the work mechanisms and achieve the desired goals, aiming at being a regional platform for Christian unity, witnessing to the Gospel and Human service.
From his end, Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs thanked Reverend Dr. Habib Badr for his continuous support and assistance in achieving the council's mission with success, shedding the light on the most important projects to be completed in the next phase.
Dr. Michel Abs also delivered a speech in which he reminded of the Evangelical Family’s role in constituting the Council since its establishment, and adding a regional and international dimension to its composition. Moreover, Dr. Abs stressed on the need of strengthening the relations with the Evangelical Churches as well as with the other Church Families in the context of supporting and reinforcing the Ecumenical spirit.
