Due to daily pressure and the deteriorating living conditions in Lebanon, Lebanese citizens and foreign residents, especially women and children, have forgotten how to be happy and hopeful. They are looking for a window to relieve their despair and anxiety. The Middle East Council of Churches, Diakonia Department, sought to rekindle happiness in their hearts through educational and artistic activities.

Activities for Kids

Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, Beirut office, organized recreational sessions for children, in the Our Lady Clinic in Sabtieh - Lebanon, affiliated to the Council, in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization Mennonite Central Committee.

During these activities, children learn easy handcrafts appropriate for their age and develop their abilities away from the daily boredom. Sessions also include lyrical paragraphs broadcasting an enjoyable musical atmosphere, and story telling to enhance interaction between them. The activity ends with a lovely lunch while applying preventive measures against Coronavirus.

Women Empowerment Courses

Diakonia Department implemented 6 recreational sessions in which 36 women participated with the aim of supporting them and relieving their daily fatigue and efforts. The team trained them on how to draw on wood and encouraged them to develop this skill to use it as a means that contributes to achieving self-sustainability. Note that this activity was funded by the international organization Norwegian Church Aid.
