The Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, in the Middle East Council of Churches, Beirut office, organized many psychosocial support sessions for a group of women and children, to help them restore hope and their usual activity amidst the Coronavirus outbreak and the various crises that put additional pressure on them.

Therefore, 36 women participated in 6 of these sessions, as they suffer from various types of mental health problems, and extreme despair and anxiety due to loneliness inflicted by the Coronavirus lockdown. Moreover, these sessions contributed in supporting some women who have faced gender-based violence, cultural isolation and post-traumatic stress disorder.

In the same context, the Diakonia Department also implemented 16 psychosocial support sessions for 36 children, aiming to enhance their psychological situation and develop their abilities and skills. During the sessions, the children participated in many games and recreational activities that spread joy in their hearts, and were trained to deal with the emotional, social, and practical challenges they may face daily.

This support program was executed in partnership and cooperation with the international humanitarian organization “Norwegian Church Aid – NCA”, and was implemented at Our Lady Dispensary, which is affiliated to the Middle East Council of Churches and located in Sabtiyeh – Lebanon.
