Afforestation Campaign in the Town of Bejjeh

Within the framework of the global environmental campaign “Season of Creation” the Middle East Council of Churches launched in the region for the first time in September 2021, the Council concluded its environmental activity for the year in partnership with Danmission organization, and in cooperation with Bejjeh Club and the parish of the town with an afforestation campaign and distribution of fruitful trees to the people of Bejjeh on Sunday December 26, 2021.
A group of officials and environmental activists participated in the activity headed by the Middle East Council of Churches Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, Director of the Ecumenical and Theological Department Fr. Antoine Al Ahmar, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Louis Lahoud, and Director General of Customs Mr. Raymond Khoury, President of the Bejjeh Club Mr. Albert Moukheiber, parish priest Fr. Pierre El Khoury, the town Mayor in addition to important figures and town people attended the event.
On the day following Christmas, the town youth took upon themselves the responsibility of planting trees in the town, especially in the vicinity of the Club and the church yard. They also distributed seedlings of fruitful trees to the people as a special initiative to help renew their harvests.
The activity also included a prayer in the church for the Creation, inspired by the encyclical of Pope Francis about caring for the Common Home, followed by a speech by the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs and Bejjeh Club President Albert Moukheiber. The environmental day ended with an agape.
