WASH and Awareness Raising Campaign in Dara’a
MECC launched a WASH campaign within its Cash for Work Program aiming at providing a temporary employment opportunities in Msefra and Kherbet Ghazaleh towns in Rural Dara’a.
160 workers participated in garbage removal and transportation. In addition, 75 women, who received health awareness sessions on COVID-19 and the importance of correct hygiene, implemented home visits in both towns to disseminate the learned information to local community and spread the knowledge to the biggest possible number of population.
MECC provided all necessary aid tools to 57 persons with disabilities including wheelchairs, hearing aids, elbow crutches, axillary crutches, etc.
Moreover, MECC organized awareness raising campaign for local community addressing “inclusion” in order to enable persons with disabilities to integrate in their communities and achieve equality.
One of the participants said,” My participation in the WASH campaign is my first job opportunity. I have never been able to find a job that would give me income to support myself and my family. I was very happy with this experience because I realized that I can depend on myself despite my disability. MECC provided me with a new wheelchair, which is of a better quality than my old one”.
MECC received a “Thank You” letter from the Mayor of Al Msefra Town appreciating the efforts devoted to help the population affected by war in this town and in Dara’a Governorate in general. He stressed that the WASH campaign contributed to the improvement of the living situation of many unemployed persons in addition to improving the situation in the town as streets became clean.
