MECC Implements a WASH Campaign in Dara’a
MECC implemented a WASH campaign within its Cash for Work Program aiming at providing a temporary employment to unemployed people in Izraa and Sheikh Meskin in Dara’a.
The campaign included gathering garbage and removing it. It provided temporary jobs to 220 workers including 14 women and 43 persons with disabilities who cleaned and sanitized streets and neighborhoods as precautions from the COVID-19. MECC provided all necessary aid tools to the people with disabilities- wheelchair, hearing aid, elbow crutches, axillary crutches, etc.
One of the participants in the campaign said: “After losing my ability to walk because of an accident; I thought I was a burden to my society. However, taking part in the campaign helped me change the way I think and my perception of myself. MECC provided me with a new wheelchair to facilitate my movement. Being able to contribute to the campaign and to receive a new wheelchair made me realize that I can challenge my disability and to have a normal life, which helped me overcome the feelings of helplessness.”
