The Middle East Council of Churches expresses its sorrow over the loss of its Executive Committee member, His Eminence Anba Bishoy, Metropolitan of Damietta and Kafr El-Sheikh and the Monastery of Saint Demiana, Barrari-Belkas, who passed away on October 3, 2018, aged 76.

Secretary General Dr. Souraya Bechealany promptly contacted His Holiness Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark to express her sorrow, stressing that the Council had lost one of its pillars, Anba Bishoy being an erudite in dogmatic theology with an ecumenical vision. He believed in developing closer relationships among churches regarding their common mission at the service of the human being.

She added: “Our Late Bishop played a crucial role in strengthening the children of the Church; he was a witness of live Christian faith. His activity extending to both theological and pastoral fields, and he was a faithful image of the oriental priesthood that believes in communication and collaboration to protect the dignity of the human being, who is created in the image and likeness of God.”

Bechealany concluded: “We sorrowfully share this loss with the Coptic Orthodox Church, with the Reverend Fathers and the Egyptian people. May our Lord Jesus embrace his pure soul in the beatitude of paradise”.
